Rebecca McClellan (D)
6th Congressional District, Centennial
Terms of Office: January 2017 – January 2029
Rebecca McClellan was elected to the Colorado State Board of Education, representing the 6th Congressional District, in November 2016 to serve a six-year term, commencing Jan. 11, 2017. She was re-elected in November 2022 to serve a second six-year term until January 2029.
In January 2023, Rebecca was unanimously chosen by her board colleagues to serve as the Chairwoman of the State Board of Education for a two-year term. Prior to that, she served as the State Board Legislative Liaison for the 2021 and 2022 Legislative Session.
Rebecca is a former Mayor Pro Tempore of the City of Centennial, where she served on City Council from 2006 to 2014. As Council Liaison to local schools, she worked with state legislators and local stakeholders to develop and pass measures to improve school funding. Rebecca also worked with Bicycle Colorado to bring Centennial schools their first Safe Routes to Schools program.
Throughout their children’s K-12 years, Rebecca and Jim enjoyed volunteering with classroom work, fundraising, and support for programs including music and the arts. Rebecca has served as a PTO executive officer, and on the executive board of her local district’s legislative network. Rebecca is a graduate of Leadership Cherry Creek. The McClellan’s are now proud Colorado public university parents.
A graduate of San Diego State University, Rebecca was selected as a 2017 Gates Fellow to the Harvard Kennedy School of Government program for senior leaders in state and local government. She has represented the Colorado State Board of Education at the National Association of State Boards of Education.
