Dr. Angelika Schroeder (D)
2nd Congressional District, Boulder
Terms of Office: January 2009 – January 2025
Dr. Angelika Schroeder was appointed to the State Board of Education in January, 2009, to fill a vacancy and was elected in November, 2010, to complete the term. She was re-elected in November, 2012, and in November, 2018. She will now serve a six-year term until January, 2025.
Dr. Schroeder is a former tax CPA and college professor of accounting. For the past 30 years, she has also been active in education issues at her daughters' schools, their district and the state and national levels.
From 1999 through 2007, Angelika was a member of the Boulder Valley School Board, serving as treasurer and vice president. She was appointed in 1995 by Governor Roy Romer as the parent representative to the Teacher and Special Services Professional Standards Board, an advisory board to the State Board of Education (SBE) on matters regarding Colorado teacher education, teacher licensing and professional educator standards.
Dr. Schroeder has also served on the boards and executive committees of the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB), the Alliance for Quality Teaching and the Public Education and Business Coalition. She served on the Committee of Practitioners, a CDE advisory group mandated under NCLB and more recently the ESSA Hub Committee. Angelika also participated in the NSBA Federal Relations Network, communicating with members of Colorado's legislative delegation in Washington, D.C. on issues regarding NCLB and IDEA.
She is presently the SBE member on the Education Leadership Council and the liaison to the Colorado Association of School Boards. She is a member of the Secondary, Postsecondary and Work-Based Learning Integration Task Force (HB 22-1215). She was selected in 2019 as a Gates Fellow and attended the Harvard Kennedy School of Government program for senior officials in state and local government. She also currently serves on the Practitioners Council of the Hoover Education Success Initiative at Stanford University
Angelika earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a master’s degree in business administration and a doctorate in accounting, all from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She and her husband Wayne have two grown daughters who attended neighborhood public schools in Boulder. They enjoy spending time with their three grandchildren.
