Kathy Plomer was elected to the At-Large seat of the Colorado State Board of Education in 2022 to serve a 6-year term.

She and her husband Jeff have three children who are products of Colorado public schools. Kathy got involved in public education over 20 years ago. As a parent, she served as President of her local Parent Teacher Organization and on the District Accountability Committee. In 2013, she was elected to the Board of Education for the Adams 12 Five Star Schools where she served for 8 years, the last 6 years as President. Kathy was a member of the Five Star Education Foundation for seven years as a Board of Education representative and then as a community member.

Additionally, Kathy served 6 years on the Board of the Directors of the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) where she had the chance to work with education leaders across the state to advocate for public education. While on the CASB Board, she served on the Executive Committee and the Federal Relations Network, and she chaired the Legislative Resolutions Committee for two years. She also represented CASB on the Colorado School Safety Resource Center Advisory Board.

Kathy has a Masters of Public Health degree from the University of Michigan and has worked in public health for 30 years in a wide variety of areas including: HIV/AIDS, cancer prevention research, health literacy, tobacco-free schools policy and implementation, training and professional development, falls prevention, and case management for those impacted by COVID.
