Every Licensed Child Care Program

Every Preschool Provider with a child care license responsible for the care and supervision of children is monitored by the Colorado Department of Early Childhood Child Care Licensing. Not all of these programs will be serving children on IFSPs or IEPs, but may have children with disabilities attending for additional child care separate from where they receive their special education services in accordance to their IEP.

Training Requirements

Training requirements have been identified by CDE that are essential for staff members of every Preschool Provider. The courses are available in the Professional Development Information System (PDIS), can be taken one time, and are transferable if a caregiver moves to another licensed program within the state.

Required Course in PDIS for Child Care Licensing (C.R.S. 7.702.42H)

Introduction to the Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education Programs: Individuals will increase their knowledge about Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education; learn how to talk to families about concerns; and how to support referrals to these programs. This course was developed in collaboration with CDE Preschool Special Education staff. (1 hour credit)

Additional Recommended PDIS Course (optional):

Supporting Young Children through Inclusive Care Course: Providers will increase their knowledge of access, participation, and support for children with delays and disabilities, as well as how to incorporate inclusive practices into your work. This additional recommended course was developed in collaboration with CDE preschool special education staff is promoted as a voluntary training experience. (1 hour credit)
